Scalextric's Twin 722 Set - What Could have been!

Recently Scalextric have released C2783A “Mercedes Twin Pack” as part of their 50th anniversary collection.

Personally I feel that it is so unfortunate that Scalextric didn’t choose to include the ultra limited edition Mercedes “722″ GTR instead of the “merely” limited McLaren built 722 edition.

Even though those gullwing doors are trick; what you really get for your extra investment is a 700 pound weight reduction from the standard McLaren SLR 722 edition. Most of the weight savings comes from an interior that is just as no-nonsense as any LM-GT car that you might see at Brands Hatch or Sebring…. and don’t think that the near-racer look of the GTR hasn’t caused people to speculate about Mercedes getting back into sports car racing in 2008.

A lucky 21 Mercedes insiders will pony up 775,000 Euro (1.2 milllllllllliiiiiiioooooooooon U.S. smackaroos) for the privilege of putting this uber-supercar in their garage!

Oh by the way, the GTR is not street legal (similar to the Ferrari Enzo Fxx).

Perhaps we will be lucky and Scalextric will consider modeling the GTR version next year?

After all, slot cars just seem to look better with numbers on the doors, don’t they?
